Suburban Shades of Cool

Note: All photos in this post are film. Cass was nice enough to let me play around with her camera for the shots.

One of the best ways to stay cool this summer? Wearing all black. Since the reappearance of grunge-esque looks on the 2013 runways of major designer brands such as Saint Laurent, Dries Van Noten, and Acne, black has never been more synonymous with the elegance of high fashion, leaving behind its extreme gothic past (Unless you consider the luxe witches of Coven to be it's remnants).

The off-duty models, indie rockstars, and fashion bloggers of the world have chicly translated the high fashion looks to street style and popularized the simple "black skinnies & a black tee/tank look", while major fashion retailers around the world have given the general public cheaper access to sleek black leathers and denims.

A vintage Guess backpack adds  a fashionista's flair to the look.

It's a look that  conjures up images of summer nights in suburbia or the Village. It's comfortable and simple, but still edgy and fashionable. It's a look for that local girl that listens to underground indie rock, wears her Docs to the tennis courts, and somehow always manages to look so cool without trying and constantly being on the go.

This post also features another trend thats resurfaced in recent years: thrifting. All of the pieces featured aside from the Dr. Marten boots have been found at Goodwill, proving that money doesn't buy style, but rather an individual either has style, or they don't. While rummaging through racks and racks of clothes searching for that one item to catch your eye may require a great deal of patience, finding your new favorite bag, shirt, etc. makes it well worth it.

The model in these shots is my lovely friend Cass, whose natural style and creativity to regards to fashion make me so thankful we met last summer while both living in Greenwich. Be sure to check out her Etsy page below for totally rad graphic tees and vintage finds she's put up for grabs:
